Redshirt sophomore Lorenzo Nunez set to transfer from South Carolina.
Nunez signed with the Gamecocks in 2015 out of Harrison High School in Kennesaw, GA and was ranked as a three-star prospect, the 53rd-best player in Georgia and the No. 18 dual-threat quarterback by ESPN and had numerous offers from all over the country. Nunez completed 32-of-52 passes for 376 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for 375 yards (second on the team) on just 59 carries, a 6.4-yard average, with two more scores, he was 1-1 in his two starts. The Gamecock coaching staff converted Nunez to wide receiver and he took a redshirt for the 2016 season.
“Lorenzo Nunez has come to me, he and his father, he wants to transfer,” Muschamp said. “He wants to play quarterback. We’re trying to help him through that process, getting him to some spots where he feels like he has an opportunity.”
South Carolina will face South Florida in the Birmingham Bowl. The Gamecocks started two freshmen this year in Jake Bentley and Brandon McIlwain. Bentley took over the starting role in the second half of the season and led the Gamecocks to wins over Tennessee and Missouri.
